In honor of Earth Day next week, Arvest and Shred-it are sponsoring the annual Shred-A-Thon on April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Arvest branch located at 2619 Highway 62 East, Mountain Home, Ark. Instead of paying for shredding services, residents are invited to make donations to the Baxter County Relay for Life, a fundraiser benefitting the American Cancer Society.

YELLVILLE, Ark. – Arvest Bank will be holding its 4th annual Shred-A-Thon event on Saturday, April 20 at the Mountain Home East branch in honor of Earth Day. The bank will be accepting monetary donations for the Baxter County Relay for Life. In lieu of paying for shredding services, residents are asked to make donations.

The Shred-A-Thon, sponsored by Arvest and Shred-it, provides an environmentally friendly way to discard unwanted paper and sensitive documents in a secure manner. Over the past three years over 11,000 pounds of paper has been shredded and recycled, and over $2,500 has been raised for the Mountain Home community.

Relay for Life is a fundraiser benefitting the American Cancer Society that communities around the world participate in. Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.  On June 8, Baxter County will be holding a Relay for Life Bark For Life event, a walk for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

“We’re so thrilled to be combining a worthwhile environmental cause with helping our neighbors in North Central Arkansas. Each year, hundreds of area residents bring unwanted documents to our Shred-A-Thon in order to recycle them in a safe way that is good for both their identity protection and our environment. ” Tiffany Watkins, spokesperson for Arvest said. “The fact that we can come together and support Relay for Life is just an added bonus.”

The Shred-A-Thon event is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mountain Home East branch located at 2619 Highway 62 East. KTLO will be broadcasting live from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. with their Treasure Chest on hand. Donations to Relay for Life will be taken throughout the day.
